RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State men’s tennis coach Jon Choboy has announced the addition of Maciek Sykut as a volunteer assistant coach. Sykut played collegiately at Florida State from 2005-09.

“I’m very excited to have Maciek join our staff,” said Choboy. “I think it’s important to add someone to our staff who has competed and been successful at the highest level both in college and professionally.”

Sykut finished his standout Florida State career with 175 combined victories, the third most in program history, recording 93 in singles play and 82 in doubles. His 93 singles wins ranks second all-time for a Seminole player, while his 82 doubles victories are fifth most in school history.

“I’m thrilled to arrive in Raleigh and work with the program here,” said Sykut. “I was excited when Jon (Choboy) gave me a call and then Mat (Cloer) did the same to welcome me into the program.”

“I’ve seen a lot of great tennis since I’ve finished school, so I think that brings another dynamic to the program.”

During his collegiate years, Sykut recorded more than 20 wins in three different seasons. As a senior, he posted 28 wins, which is the ninth-best single season tally in Seminole program history.

“We want our players to carry themselves in a professional manner with good character and integrity so it’s very important that we have that on the coaching staff and Maciek possess those qualities,” Choboy said.

A native of Warsaw, Poland, Sykut immigrated to the United States with his parents when he was seven, settling in Florida. As a prep player for Marathon High School, Sykut captured the state 1A singles title.

The men’s tennis team will kick off the season by hosting an open tournament September 1-3, at the J.W. Isenhour Tennis Center.
