Three from Pack Men's Tennis Listed in ITA Preseason Rankings

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) announced its preseason singles and doubles rankings Friday and three members of the NC State men’s tennis team were among those represented.
Junior Austin Powell was listed among the top 125 players in the country with a No. 96 singles ranking for the fall season. A native of Muscle Shoals, Ala., Powell closed out the 2012-13 campaign with a team-leading 21 victories, including seven in Atlantic Coast Conference play. Entering his third season at NC State, Powell has now been ranked in the preseason singles rankings in each of the two years he has been eligible to be listed.
A native of Sydney, Australia, rookie Nick Horton was tabbed sixth in the ITA’s preseason freshman/newcomer rankings.
In doubles, the duo of senior Sean Weber and Horton was listed 49th among the top 60 doubles pairs in the country. Last season, Weber formed one of the top doubles pairs, along with NC State grad Dave Thomson. The duo compiled a 19-12 record, including seven victories over ranked opponents and earned a bid into the NCAA Doubles Championship. Thomson and Weber finished the season with a No. 25 listing in the final ITA doubles rankings.
Selections were also announced for the 2013 ITA Men’s All-American Championships, scheduled for Sept. 28 - Oct. 6 in Tulsa, Okla. Powell and Horton were each listed among the selections for the qualifying draw in singles, while Horton and Weber were selected to play in the doubles qualifying draw.
The Wolfpack will open its fall slate at the Duke Fab Four Invitational, held at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., Sept. 13-15.
