Men's Tennis Readies for UVa Ranked + 1

RALEIGH, N.C. – Five representatives from the NC State men’s tennis team are set to compete in the UVa Ranked + 1 Invitational, hosted by University of Virginia, Sept. 20-22 at the Snyder Tennis Center in Charlottesville, Va.
“This is a tournament we have been going to for several years now,” said head coach Jon Choboy. “It should be a good opportunity to go up against some top guys and improve our rankings.”
The tournament will feature four singles draws and four doubles draws. The Pack is one of 15 schools to have competitors in a strong field that includes, host Virginia, Binghamton, Elon, George Washington, Georgia Tech, Kentucky, Louisville, Memphis, Michigan, UNC, UNC Wilmington, VCU, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
In singles, junior Austin Powell and Simon Norenius will compete in the orange draw, with Powell playing as the No. 5 seed and Norenius making his season debut. Freshman Nick Horton, ranked as the No. 6 freshman in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) preseason rankings, and junior Robbie Mudge will face competition in the blue singles draw, while senior Sean Weber will play in the white draw.
In doubles, the Pack will send two duos with Norenius and Horton set to compete in the red draw, while Mudge and Weber will face competition in the black draw.
The Wolfpack is coming off a successful start to the 2013-14 season at the Duke Fab Four Invitational, as Mudge, Powell and Horton all advanced to the semifinals in their respective draws. In addition, all three Pack doubles pairs advanced to the semifinals of their respective draws, with Mudge and Weber reaching the finals.
Two rounds of singles and one round of doubles are slated to be played on Friday, starting at 9 a.m.
