Greg Hicks continues his longtime affiliation with the NC State wrestling program as an assistant coach in 2002-03. A two-time ACC champion for the Pack in 1966 and '67, Hicks won 35 consecutive bouts at one point during his career. He received his bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from NC State in 1968 and his master's in religion from International Christian Graduate University in 1979.
Following his career at NC State, Hicks went on to become one of the top amateur wrestlers in the world, winning the 1973 and '74 National Federation Championships, the '74 AAU championship, and the 1975 Pan Am Games at 180 pounds. He took second place at the U.S. Olympic Trals in 1972 and won silver medals at the 1974 and '76 Wrestling World Cup. He later wrestled for eight years with Athletes in Action and then served five years in an administrative position with AIA.
Hicks and his wife Sue, a secretary in the Wolfpack football program, have two children, Nathan and Cari.
