DURHAM, N.C.-- NC State wrestled its second doubleheader of the season on Friday, defeating Duke 24-15 and Ohio 27-15.

NC State improved to 7-9 overall and picked up its first win in ACC play. Duke fell to 3-9 overall and remained winless in ACC play, while Ohio dropped to 4-7.

The format for the matches on Friday was unique in the sense that Wolfpack wrestlers were competing on two different mats simultaneously. On mat 1, NC State was wrestling against Ohio and started at the 125-pound weight class. On mat 2, the Pack squared off against conference for Duke starting at 165 pounds.

The Wolfpack won six of 10 bouts against Duke en route to a 24-15 victory. Sophomore Nijel Jones got the Pack off to a good start by defeating Ryan Harding of Duke by decision, 9-3. At 174, senior Quinton Godley, ranked No. 26 nationally, followed up two great performances last weekend with another stellar outing against Randy Roden. Godley went on to win the match 2-0 over Roden.

Junior KaRonne Jones picked up a close win for State beating Brian Self in a close decision at 197, 3-2.

NC State held a narrow lead of 9-6 at the intermission, but Duke would start the second half of the match on fire. The Blue Devils picked up wins at 125 from Peter Terrezza over Coltin Fought and 133 from Brandon Gambucci over Ben Elliott. The Wolfpack would not be denied in the last three matches as Darrius Little, Matt Nereim, and Colton Palmer all picked up wins.

Redshirt senior Darrius Little, ranked 10th nationally, beat Tanner Hough by decision, 3-1. Little's victory would tighten the overall team score to 15-12 with Duke leading. Matt Nereim picked up a huge pin for the Pack at 149 defeating Andrew Guardado by fall at 6:48. The pin by Nereim put the Wolfpack back in the lead 18-15.

Heading into the last bout of the match, redshirt senior Colton Palmer squared off against Immanuel Kerr-Brown of Duke. Palmer would record his third pin in as many matches getting the fall over Kerr-Brown at 3:56 in the second period.

The Wolfpack has now completed the regular season schedule and will return to action on Saturday, March 3 at the ACC Championships in Chapel Hill, N.C.
