Wrestling Cruises to Three Wins in Wolfpack Duals

RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State wrestling team breezed to three victories today in the first three duals of the season. The Wolfpack downed Gardner-Webb 37-0, Lindsey Wilson 34-12, and UNC Pembroke 39-6.
The Pack posted a combined 25-5 mark in the three duals, recording seven falls and three technical falls among its victories.
The Pack's 37-0 shutout of Gardner-Webb to start the day was the first shutout in a dual for NC State since a 40-0 win over VMI in 2001. After recording three decisions to start the match, freshman Brian Hamann scored a major decision at 149 pounds, followed by senior Nijel Jones recording a pin at 165 pounds.
In the win over Lindsey Wilson, the Pack posted back-to-back pins by freshmen Micah Perez (125) and Chris Wilkes (133) to start the dual. Fellow freshmen Max Rohskopf (157) and Nick Gwiazdowski (285) also recorded pins.
Against UNC Pembroke, NC State won its first six matches. Freshman Brendan Calas started with a pin at 125, followed by technical fall wins by Wilkes at 133 pounds and Tommy Gantt at 157 pounds. The match was finished off with Gwiazdowski's second pin of the day, 1:48 into the match.
The Pack will travel to Albany, N.Y., next weekend to face Binghamton, Buffalo and Illinois at the Journeyman/Northeast Duals.
