RALEIGH, N.C.-- NC State wrestling team will play host to Indiana and VMI in a doubleheader match on Sunday February 12 at Cardinal Gibbons High School. The Wolfpack will face Indiana at 10:30 a.m. and VMI at 1:30 p.m. approximately.
NC State enters the weekend with a record of 4-8 overall, Indiana is 8-7, and VMI is 5-7.
The Wolfpack will look to snap a four-game losing skid on Sunday after suffering tough losses in their last four matches. Three of those four losses came at the hands of ranked teams as Oklahoma State is ranked No. 1 nationally, Maryland is No. 12, and Old Dominion is No. 23.
“We always try to wrestle an extremely tough schedule; it’s a way for the guys to get around the country and wrestle the best competition,” Wolfpack head coach Carter Jordan said.
The Indiana Hoosiers are coming off a lost in their last match to Purdue by a score of 19-16. The Hoosiers are led by Matt Powless who is the No. 3-ranked wrestler in the 197-pound weight division. Indiana will also feature three other ranked wrestlers: No. 18 Taylor Walsh at 149, No. 23 Ryan LeBlanc at 174, and No. 26 Adam Chalfant at heavyweight.
VMI is led by Matthew Brock who is ranked 33rd in the 174-pound weight class. The Keydets won their last dual match and placed third at the All-Academy Championships this past weekend.
"Indiana is talented and VMI is always tough and will always wrestle for seven minutes," said Jordan.
The Hoosiers and Keydets will wrestle after the conclusion of the first match between NC State and Indiana. The match is slated to begin at noon.
"This is a tough part of the year, the guys are going through a serious training phase and it's difficult," Jordan said. "In this sport there are going to be tough nights, but our seniors have done a good job of keeping our younger guys motivated."
