RALEIGH, N.C. - The NCAA has announced the qualifier allocations for the 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, with the Atlantic Coast Conference receiving a league-record 34 automatic spots, including multiple qualifiers in all 10 weight classes.

The ACC received five qualifiers in the 141- and the 197-pound weight class, and four qualifiers in the 149-, 184- and 285-pound pound weight classes. Three spots were awarded to the conference at 125 and 174. The 133-, 157- and 165-pound weight classes each received two slots.

The 2014 ACC Wrestling Championship will be held March 8 in Blacksburg, Va. All seven ACC schools are able to send one participant per weight class.

Each qualifying tournament was awarded spots per weight class based on current year data.  Each wrestler was measured on the following: Division I winning percentage at the weight class; rating percentage index (RPI); and coaches ranking.

For each wrestler that reached the threshold in at least two of the three categories, his qualifying tournament was awarded a qualifying spot in that weight class.  Each qualifying tournament, with automatic qualifying status, was awarded a minimum of one wrestler per weight class, which will go to the tournament champion, even if they did not have any wrestlers reach at least two of the three thresholds.  NCAA tournament spots for each qualifying event will be awarded at the tournament based solely on place-finish.

After all of the qualifying events have concluded, the NCAA Division I Wrestling Committee will meet in-person to select the remaining 40 at-large qualifiers, which will be announced on March 12.  All weight classes will consist of 33 wrestlers.  The at-large selections will be made based on the following criteria: head-to-head competition; qualifying event placement; quality wins; results against common opponents; winning percentage; RPI; coaches ranking and the number of matches contested at that weight class.

The 2014 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships return to Oklahoma City March 20-22 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

NC State also had five wrestlers ranked in both the final NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings and final RPI released by the NCAA.

141: Sophomore Sam Speno (22-11) is ranked 28th in the Coaches' Panel Rankings and 20th in the RPI.

149: Freshman Brian Hamann (19-10) is ranked 30th in both the Coaches' Panel Rankings in the RPI.

157: Junior Tommy Gantt (30-7) is ranked 18th in the Coaches' Panel Rankings and 16th in the RPI.

174: Freshman Pete Renda (24-8) is ranked 19th in the Coaches' Panel Rankings and 25th in the RPI.
