Kelly Part of USA Wrestling Coaching Staff at London Olympics
July 10, 2012
Raleigh, N.C. - Assistant wrestling coach Jamill Kelly will travel to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, and serve as part of the support staff for USA Wrestling. Kelly recently joined the Pack coaching staff as part of new head coach Pat Popolizio's first staff.
USA Wrestling has a staff of three main coaches and also brings a support staff. Part of Kelly's duties with the support staff will be training athletes and helping with workouts, and scouting opponents for the U.S.
This will be Kelly's fourth straight trip to the Olympics as part of USA Wrestling. In 2000, Kelly traveled to Sydney and served as a sparing partner. In 2004, Kelly won the silver medal at 66kg (145.5 lbs) in Athens, and in 2008 he also served on the support staff in Beijing.
"This is a great opportunity for me to continue to be involved with the national team," said Kelly. "It is a tremendous asset for me to be involved and coaching with some of the top coaches in the world on the international level. This opportunity will allow me to convey my experience to our current NC State wrestlers, working on the latest techniques and strategies to get our guys to that next level."
Kelly and USA Wrestling will leave on July 27 for London where they will take part in the opening ceremonies. The squad will then travel to Belarus where they will train before returning to London where competition begins on August 8.
