RALEIGH, N.C. – The NC State wrestling team will head to Albany, N.Y., this weekend to compete in the Journeymen/Northeast Duals. On Saturday, the Pack will face Buffalo at 9:15 a.m., followed by duals against Binghamton and #7 Illinois.

NC State has started the season strong. The Pack swept the Wolfpack Duals last weekend, defeating Gardner-Webb 37-0, Lindsey Wilson 34-12, and UNC Pembroke 39-6. NC State posted a combined 25-5 mark in the three duals, recording seven falls and three technical falls among its victories.

In four open tournaments thus far, the Pack has had 23 top-three finishes, including bringing home seven titles.

Illinois enters the weekend ranked #7 in the USA Today/NWCA/AWN Division I Coaches Poll with seven of their 10 starters ranked nationally, led by #1 Jess Delgado at 125 pounds. The Fighting Illini are 3-0 on the season, with a combined score of 106-17.

Binghamton will be a familiar foe, as Pack head coach Pat Popolizio was the head coach for the Bearcats for six seasons before he came to NC State. While at Binghamton, Popolizio was a two-time CAA coach of the year, and his squad finished 14th at the NCAA Championships his final season.

Pack heavyweight Nick Gwiazdowski also has ties to Binghamton, as he spent his freshman season there with Popolizio. As a true freshman, Gwiazdowksi placed 8th at the 2012 NCAA championships to claim All-America honors.

Buffalo will be competing in their first duals of the season.
