Recognized as an expert in the Sports Medicine field, Dr. Robert T. Wyker was selected to serve as the Director of Orthopaedic Care for over 600 student-athletes at North Carolina State University. Dr. Wyker is a board-certified orthopaedic surgeon with specialized training in sports medicine. He has been working with the NC State Athletic Department for over 20 years, and has experience and expertise working with all 23 varsity sports teams. Dr. Wyker works closely with the athletic training staff to ensure each athlete at NC State is receiving the highest quality of orthopaedic care available.

Dr. Wyker is a Phi Beta Kappa, summa cum laude graduate of the University of Virginia. He attended Virginia's Medical School where he was selected to membership in Alpha Omega Alpha, a distinction awarded to the top five percent of medical students. He was the 1982 recipient of the Douglas W. Eastwood Anesthesiology award. Dr Wyker received his surgical training at the University of Pittsburgh where he completed his internship and orthopaedic residency and where he served one year as Chief Resident. In February of 2009, Dr. Wyker obtained an additional subspecialty certificate in Sports Medicine through the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. Dr. Wyker specializes in arthroscopic surgery, shoulder, elbow, hip and knee reconstruction and sports medicine.

Dr. Wyker is the past president of the North Carolina Orthopaedic Association, a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the North Carolina Medical Society, the Wake County Medical Society, and served as the Chief of Orthopaedics at WakeMed. He is currently a senior partner at Raleigh Orthopaedic Clinic, Wake County's largest and most established orthopaedic practice, where he has had the privilege of working with both nationally and internationally recognized athletes.

Dr. Wyker's love of athletics stems from his personal experiences. He attended a small high school in Virginia where he was a member of numerous athletic teams including football, basketball, lacrosse, tennis and wrestling. At the University of Virginia, Dr. Wyker was a member of the Varsity Lacrosse team. In addition to serving as the Director of Orthopaedic Care for North Carolina State University, Dr. Wyker volunteers his time as the team physician for Millbrook High School.
