RALEIGH, N.C. - The NC State women's basketball team was defeated, 59-55, by Miami in ACC action Thursday evening at Reynolds Coliseum.

Kody Burke led NC State with her fifth double-double of the season, posting 13 points and 10 rebounds, while sophomore Krystal Barrett added 12 points and eight boards. Len'Nique Brown finished the night with nine points and seven assists for the Wolfpack.

"Statistically I did score a bit," said Burke. "I thought I felt more aggressive this game. I knew I had to bounce back from Sunday."

Marissa Kastanek scored four points and pulled down six rebounds, and in the process, passed Sharon Manning (1988-91) to move into sole possession of 10th place on the program's all-time scoring list with 1,573 points.

"I thought we played hard," said head coach Kellie Harper. "I'm okay with our effort. What we explained to our team is that playing hard is not enough. You have to play hard and execute your assignment."

NC State (13-14, 5-10 ACC) trailed 33-23 at halftime, as Barrett posted eight points and four rebounds, while Burke chipped in six points and four rebounds. Lakeesa Daniel also had a productive first half with four points and five rebounds in eight minutes off the bench.

The Pack shot 25 percent on 10-of-40 shooting and connected on three of nine three-point attempts in the first half, while the Hurricanes were 14-of-29 (.483) from the field, but just 1-of-6 (.167) from beyond the arc.

Miami (18-8, 9-6 ACC) grew its largest lead of the night to 17 with 16:05 remaining in the game, but minutes later and the Wolfpack trailing, 45-30, the contest was nearly flipped on its head as NC State used 19-3 run to take its first and only lead of the game with 6:26 left on the clock, up 49-48.

"We got the ball inside and made baskets inside during that stretch," Harper said. "We were definitely more aggressive."

Miami answered with consecutive buckets to regain a lead it would never relinquish the rest of the way. Kastanek and Barrett both had chances to tie the game in the final minute with three-point attempts, however, the Hurricanes sealed the win with free throws in the final seconds.

"Miami's very tough and very physical," said Harper. "We just did not handle it well. They're gritty defensively."

Stefanie Yderstrom led Miami with 17 points, while Shawnice Wilson recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

NC State finished the night 20-of-71 (.282) from the floor, 4-of-15 (.267) from three-point range and 11-of-14 (.786) from the free throw line. Miami shot 23-of-57 (.404) overall, 1-of-8 (.125) from downtown and 12-of-17 (.706) from the foul line.

The Wolfpack will take to the road Sunday, Feb. 24, for its second meeting with rival North Carolina at 1:30 p.m.
