Postgame Quotes: No. 13 NC State vs. No. 2 Notre Dame
March 2, 2014
Head coach Wes Moore
I’m disappointed in our defensive effort in the second half. You can’t give up 48 points and expect to compete. It puts too much pressure on your offense, especially right now as we go through this adjustment stage of playing without Myisha [Goodwin-Coleman] and [Lakeesa Daniel]. We just can’t afford to let people put up those kind of numbers. We’re going to have to do a better job defensively and on the boards and taking care of the basketball too. I thought early in the year we did a better job at that. Today, we got a little sloppy at times. It’s hard right now, because you’re a competitor and you don’t want to lose, period.
At the same time, I’m proud of these kids and what they have accomplished. I always say, you erase the board at this point. The conference tournament is a new season and we have a new opportunity come Friday.
On Natalie Achonwa's game that caused so much trouble:
On what the seniors mean to this team:
Senior forward Kody Burke
“It is really hard to pinpoint one (role model). I would definitely say that this year this team has been my role model. They all step up to the plate and give it their everything. I am just really thankful for this year. I learned a lot about myself just through them.”
“I couldn’t be more proud. Obviously we aren’t first in the ACC, but we just exceeded all expectations and we have a brand new season coming up and a chance to make a statement in this post season.”
“I would say Notre Dame has athletes. They shoot and they are a very smart team, almost the total package. Usually teams we play are either very athletic but weren’t as effective shooters or vice versa, but Notre Dame is a tough team.”
“With our push defense we are supposed to deny the high post and Achonwa did a good job of flashing to the top of the key which I had to deny and she went back door so she had easy lay ups that way. So she is a very smart player and knows how to find the open areas.”
“Legacy, history and just a great family atmosphere. One of the reasons why I choose to come here and every time I walk through that gym I just reminded of how much women’s basketball is appreciated and the history made in Reynolds Coliseum.
“It’s touching. We put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this gym. It is emotional.”
Senior center Markeisha Gatling
(in the first half) “We were just knocking down our shots and executing plays. We were getting great looks.”
