    Head coach Wes Moore

    Opening Statement:
Well, first of all, you have to give Notre Dame a lot of credit. They’re very well coached, they play hard and they can shoot the ball. That’s what really sets them apart. They don’t really have a weakness out there and no one you can really cheat off of, so again hats off to them.

I’m disappointed in our defensive effort in the second half. You can’t give up 48 points and expect to compete. It puts too much pressure on your offense, especially right now as we go through this adjustment stage of playing without Myisha [Goodwin-Coleman] and [Lakeesa Daniel]. We just can’t afford to let people put up those kind of numbers. We’re going to have to do a better job defensively and on the boards and taking care of the basketball too. I thought early in the year we did a better job at that. Today, we got a little sloppy at times. It’s hard right now, because you’re a competitor and you don’t want to lose, period.

At the same time, I’m proud of these kids and what they have accomplished. I always say, you erase the board at this point. The conference tournament is a new season and we have a new opportunity come Friday.

On Natalie Achonwa's game that caused so much trouble:
She is just an extremely hard worker. Her motor runs extremely high and she’s strong. She did a really good job of ducking, which we knew she would. She also from the high post area looked to attack and looked for back-door cuts. She is just very active and we didn’t do a very good job containing her.

On what the seniors mean to this team:
It’s always bittersweet. Our jobs as coaches and educators is to prepare these young ladies for productive lives ahead of them and help them fulfill their dreams and earn their degrees. Selfishly, you’d like to keep them around a little longer sometimes. We are graduating a great class. I am very blessed to inherit a senior class that not only had some talent, but also was willing to buy in and do the things we asked. They’ve worked extremely hard and they’ve made a big difference for the future of the program. Those kids are all going to earn their degrees and do great things. It’s tough with Myisha and [Daniel] to have their careers end before they can go to the postseason and experience the postseason tournaments.

    Senior forward Kody Burke
“In the second half I would say that our defense wasn’t as effective as it was in the first half and Notre Dame is a very smart team. They were able to find the open areas and cut back doors and use the lob. They really challenged us on our defense and it went well for them.”

“It is really hard to pinpoint one (role model). I would definitely say that this year this team has been my role model. They all step up to the plate and give it their everything. I am just really thankful for this year. I learned a lot about myself just through them.”

“I couldn’t be more proud. Obviously we aren’t first in the ACC, but we just exceeded all expectations and we have a brand new season coming up and a chance to make a statement in this post season.”

“I would say Notre Dame has athletes. They shoot and they are a very smart team, almost the total package. Usually teams we play are either very athletic but weren’t as effective shooters or vice versa, but Notre Dame is a tough team.”

“With our push defense we are supposed to deny the high post and Achonwa did a good job of flashing to the top of the key which I had to deny and she went back door so she had easy lay ups that way.  So she is a very smart player and knows how to find the open areas.”

“Legacy, history and just a great family atmosphere. One of the reasons why I choose to come here and every time I walk through that gym I just reminded of how much women’s basketball is appreciated and the history made in Reynolds Coliseum.

“It’s touching. We put a lot of blood sweat and tears into this gym. It is emotional.”

    Senior center Markeisha Gatling
    “It’s emotional. I can’t really say much”

(in the first half) “We were just knocking down our shots and executing plays. We were getting great looks.”
