Postgame Quotes: NC State vs. St. Bonaventure
Nov. 8, 2013
Head coach Wes Moore
“You guys may remember the Western, The Good, Bad and the Ugly. The first 10 minutes was bad, but during the second 10 minutes of the first half and the first 10 minutes of the second half I thought we did some good things. The last 10 minutes or so, I thought were ugly. I thought we covered all the bases. Our effort was good. I thought Kody Burke gave us a good lift initially to start the game; she hit some big shots. That helped kind of jump start us. Myisha Goodwin-Coleman, she can obviously shoot the ball, so we try to get her some looks and she did a good job of knocking those down. Miah Spencer is a freshman we are really excited about and she did a nice job shooting the ball. Our other freshman, Jennifer Mathurin, I thought gave us a lot of energy. She led us in rebounding.”
“We still have a long ways to go. Defensively, we are still fouling way too much, as you guys noticed. It’s not a whole lot of fun to watch for you or me. We want to be aggressive and try to dictate what the offense does, but in doing so you have to play defense with your feet instead of your hands. We have to clean that up. They had 22 points in the paint and 20 points off the foul line, so 42 of their 47 points came too easy. We will work on that.”
On holding St. Bonaventure scoreless to begin the second half:
I did talk about that we don’t pay attention to the score. We come out and its 0-0 and we need to try to get better. I don’t believe in mop-up duties. Whoever is in there, I expect them to execute and get better individually and try to make us better as a team. I was pleased with our energy for the most part."
"This is a tough game to start with, because there isn’t a conventional low-post player out there. They play five out and really try to spread you. That can exploit weaknesses in a hurry. That was not a whole lot of fun to defend at times."
