Jan. 7, 2014
RALEIGH, N.C. - Following a 67-61 win over then-No. 20 Syracuse Sunday afternoon to open the 2014 Atlantic Coast Conference schedule, the NC State women's basketball team (14-1, 1-0 ACC) was ranked 23rd in the country on Tuesday in the latest USA Today Top-25 poll.
This news comes one day after State was ranked No. 20 in the AP Top-25 poll on Jan. 6.
Off to the best start since the 1999-00 team began the year 14-1, State has seen great success under the leadership of new head coach Wes Moore and his staff. The Wolfpack has defeated two top-20 teams (LSU and Syracuse), has won eight straight games, and has posted an average victory margin of 22.1 points per game.
Today's ranking marks the first time that the Wolfpack has been ranked in the USA Today poll since December of 2007, when the team was No. 24 heading into a nonconference game against East Carolina.
NC State is next in action on Thursday at No. 13/12 North Carolina. The Wolfpack and Tar Heels will tip off from Carmichael Arena beginning at 6 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3.
