Gatling and Burke Earn All-ACC Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – In recognition of their terrific 2013-14 seasons, seniors Markeisha Gatling and Kody Burke of the No. 14 NC State women’s basketball team (24-6) were recognized in the first of the Atlantic Coast Conference’s postseason awards announcements made Tuesday afternoon.
Gatling was named to the All-ACC first team while Burke earned All-ACC second team honors. The Wolfpack is one of only three ACC programs (Notre Dame and Georgia Tech) to have one student-athlete on both the first and second teams.
The Blue Ribbon Panel is made up of four members from each of the 15 ACC institutions, along with seven national media members who cover the ACC and women’s basketball on a regular basis for a total of 67 members. Included in the four members from each institution are the women’s basketball sports information/media relations contact, two members of each team’s local media beat and the head women’s basketball coach from each school.

Averaging 15.1 points and 6.0 rebounds per game, ranking second on the team in both categories … Hit the game-winning shot in NC State’s Feb. 23 win over Virginia … Scored a game and career-high 30 points on Feb. 20 at No. 7 Duke … Has scored in double figures in 25 of State’s 30 games this season … Became just the third CoSIDA first team Academic All-American in school history on Feb. 7 … Has collected 10+ rebounds in four ACC games this season … Made the 100th start of her career at No. 13 UNC on Jan. 9 … Ranks second in school history with 193 career blocks … Ranks tied for fifth in school history with 129 career appearances … Ranks 10th in school history with 803 career rebounds … Ranks 12th in school history with 1,557 career points.
NC State has earned a double bye at the 2014 ACC Tournament and will open play in the quarterfinal round at 11 a.m. on March 7. The Wolfpack will play either Virginia Tech, Clemson, or Syracuse in this game. A live broadcast will be available on ESPN3.
