    Whittington Selected by Indiana Fever in WNBA Draft
    PALM HARBOR, Fla. - NC State forward Khadijah Whittington was selected in the second round of the 2008 WNBA Draft on Wednesday by the Indiana Fever.

    Whittington, one of only 20 prospects invited to attend the draft was the 26th overall selection in the three-round draft.

    The Roanoke, Va., native had a banner final season for NC State, averaging a team-leading 16.8 points and an ACC-best 11.7 rebounds per game. In addition she compiled 81 steals, 58 blocks and set an NC State-record with 398 rebounds.

    "This is certainly a dream come true to be selected in this year’s draft and to be here among some really great players," said Whittington. "I will bring hard work and determination to my new team. That is something I did at the Pre-Draft Camp earlier this week and something I did for four years at NC State.”

    She was named first team All-Atlantic Coast Conference and to the All-ACC Defensive team during her senior campaign, leading the Wolfpack to a 21-13 record.

    Whittington, who set a program record with 24 double-doubles this year, was named to the State Farm Coaches’ All-America Team Honorable Mention list on Sunday.

    She is one of three players in ACC history with 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds, 200 steals and 100 blocks and played all 129 games at NC State over the past four years, never missing a game.

    She ranked fourth nationally in rebounds per game with 11.7.

    “I just pray that I can be as durable at the next level as I was at NC State”, explained Whittington. “I am blessed to have the opportunity to continue my basketball career. Today is truly a great day.”

    13 former Wolfpack Women have either played or been drafted in the WNBA preceding Whittington, including former teammates Gillian Goring and Ashley Key, who were both selected in the third round of last year’s draft.

    According to, Goring is still listed on the Washington Mystics roster, while veteran Chasity Melvin is the starting center for the Chicago Sky and Tiffany Stansbury is a key frontcourt player for the Minnesota Lynx.
