NC State Adds Bosnian Sara Boric to Roster
June 19, 2014
RALEIGH – The NC State women’s basketball team received a nice boost to its ranks recently, adding Bosnia and Herzegovina native Sara Boric to its roster in advance of the 2014-15 season.
The 6-5 center will be immediately eligible and able to compete for the Wolfpack as a freshman beginning this fall. She is rated as a four-star recruit by ProspectsNation.com.
“Sara is someone that we’re really excited about,” 2014 ESPNW ACC Coach of the Year Wes Moore said. “She’s right around 6-6 and brings a great presence on both the offensive and defensive ends of the floor. We’re excited about getting her over here and being able to start working with her as we prepare for the upcoming season.”
In addition to high school team play with Tehnicka Skola, the native of Banja Luka played an important role on the Bosnia-Herzegovina U18 team at the FIBA Women’s European Championship, helping her team to a fifth-place Division B finish while starting all eight games and averaging 19.1 minutes per contest.
At the competition, Boric’s strongest game came in a 70-55 victory over Austria during which she scored nine points and collected eight rebounds.
“Obviously in our four-out-one-in system, that one ‘in’ is a very critical position,” Moore added. “With the graduation of Keisha Gatling and Kee-Kee (Lakeesa) Daniel, we have some big shoes to fill.”
Boric will soon be heading to Romania with her Bosnia & Herzegovina teammates to compete in the 2014 U18 FIBA Women’s European Championship. Drawn into Group B, her team will match up with Finland, Bulgaria, and Luxembourg from July 17-27.
The Wolfpack has announced three nonconference games for its 2014-15 schedule. NC State will travel to Grand Bahama Island Nov. 27-29 to compete in the Junkanoo Jam against George Washington and Texas Tech/Purdue and the Pack will host Minnesota on Dec. 3 in the ACC/B1G Challenge.
