NC State One Win From 700
A win today would mark the 700th for NC State. The Wolfpack Women's basketball team has compiled an all-time record of 699-334 in 35 incredible years dating back to 1974-75.     The program picked up its 650th win with a 63-48 victory over UNC Wilmington on November 17, 2006. Only North Carolina and Virginia have more wins than the Pack among schools in the ACC.

    Coach Yow Misses Columbia Game
NC State's Hall of Fame head coach Kay Yow missed the game at Columbia on Monday, Dec. 22, because she was not feeling well. It marked the first game she had missed since she took a 16-game leave of absence when a reoccurrence of breast cancer came about in November of 2006.

The following day a statement from Dr. Mark Graham was released: Coach Kay Yow missed the NC State women's basketball game at Columbia on Monday, December 22, after a five-day road trip in the New York City area. She was on the bench Saturday, December 20 at Seton Hall. Coaching with metastatic breast cancer since late 2004, Coach Yow felt the more severe cold in New York City worsened symptoms that normally are more tolerable.

“I feel better now that we are back home (in Raleigh) and have every intention of coaching on Monday, December the 29th, Lord willing, said Yow.”

Beal Explodes For 26 at Columbia
In her first start of the season, junior Sharnise Beal scored a career-high 26 points last time out for the Pack in a 78-58 win at Columbia on Dec. 22. The New Britain, Conn., native is now averaging 11.4 points this season in five games since returning from shoulder surgery that kept her out of the first seven games.

    Valuing the Basketball
NC State has done a nice job of limiting turnovers so far this season, currently tied with Wake Forest for the lead in the ACC and 32nd nationally with only 15.5 giveaways per game.

Game No. 1000 at NC State for Coach Yow
December 14 against Ole Miss, Coach Yow took her seat alongside Tennessee's Pat Summitt and former Texas' coach Jody Condradt as the only women's basketball coaches at the Division I level to coach 1,000 games at one institution. Coach Yow is also just 15 wins away from 750 for her career, which only Summitt, Condradt, Vivian Stringer (Rutgers) and UNC's Sylvia Hatchell have accomplished.

    Fields Joins 1,000-Point Club
Shayla Fields became the 25th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points against Ole Miss (12/14/08) with 17 points. Not bad considering she only scored three points during her freshman season. She is the ACC's third leading scorer at 18.3 points per game and that ranks 28th in the NCAA.

    Today's Game Moved to a 1 p.m. Start
The NC State women’s basketball game time for Monday, Dec. 29, has been moved up one hour to a 1 p.m. tip time against Jacksonville State in Reynolds Coliseum. This game falls on the same day the football team takes on Rutgers in the Bowl at 3 p.m., in Birmingham, Ala. The athletic department felt it was in the best interest to accommodate our fans that wish to stay for the basketball game and then catch the football game later that afternoon.

Fields, Gartrell Lead ACC in Minutes Played
Shayla Fields and Nikitta Gartrell rank first and second in minutes played this season in the ACC. Fields leads at 37.0 minutes per game as she has played the full 40 minutes seven times overall, while Gartrell is at 35.3 minutes and has gone the distance three times so far. See the next note -  this is certainly nothing new for Fields.
