Feb. 18, 2014
RIO GRANDE, Puerto Rico - Brittany Marchand tied for fourth overall and Augusta James tied for 11th as the 12th-ranked NC State women's golf team concluded play at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The Wolfpack tied Alabama and Purdue for sixth in the 15-team event.
Marchand (71-72-73 - 216) tied with two other players for fourth and was just two shots out of third place. It was Marchand's 11th career top-10 finish.
I had to fight hard for a decent score because I was struggling with my ball striking," Marchand said. "I left some shots out there but I'm happy overall how the team and me played this week."
James (73-74-71 - 218) finished the tournament on a strong note with a round of 71.
"My score reflected my game better today. However, it was still a little up and down," James said. "Overall, it was a good start to the spring season."
Ana Menendez (227), Rachael Taylor (238) and Caroline Ellington (241) rounded out the Wolfpack scores. Arkansas (867), the No. 8 team in the country, won the tournament by 14 shots. GRU Augusta (881) placed second and Northwestern (886) finished third.
After opening the spring season in Puerto Rico, the Wolfpack will play in the Thompson Invitational in Hawaii on March 11-12.
