April 3, 2005
BROWNS SUMMIT, N.C. - The NC State women's golf finished 10th in a 17-team field featuring nine top 25 squads at the Bryan National Collegiate on Sunday. Lorraine Ballerano finished 15 over-par and in 28th place to lead the Wolfpack at the par 72 Bryan Park Golf Course.
Molly Birmingham led NC State in the final round, shooting seven-over. She finished 19-over and tied for 39th. Ballerano, who carded a three-under the first round and was tied for second place going into the second round, fired a 82 in the third round, as did teammate Ashlee Dean. Dean finished 23-over and tied with teammate Nancy Mountcastle. Lauren Harling also competed for the Wolfpack.
Conditions were a challenge over the course of the weekend, as play was suspended Saturday for hail and gusty winds were a factor on Sunday. Duke won the event at 15-over and the Blue Devils' Brittany Lang was the individual medalist with an even-par total. Complete results are available at www.golfstat.com. NC State returns to action tomorrow when the JV squad begins competition at the UNCW Lady Seahawk Invitational at River Landing Country Club in Wallace, N.C.
