April 17, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. - NC State is just two shots behind three teams tied for fifth place after 18 holes of the ACC Women's Golf Championship at Sedgefield Country Club.
"The team worked hard this afternoon and we saw some good stretches of golf today," head coach Page Marsh said. "We just need to be a bit more patient and more assertive on these Donald Ross greens. I'm very proud of their work ethics and we're looking forward to matching wits against the course and conditions tomorrow."
The Wolfpack (+24), is in ninth in the 11-team field, but trails Notre Dame, Maryland and Florida State (+22) by just two shots. Duke and Virginia (+7) are each tied for the tournament lead.
Augusta James (+4) led the Wolfpack and is tied for 14th in the 55-player field. She birdied the par-4 No. 4 hole and scored par on 12 holes.
"The greens were rolling nice today," James said. "It was a tough start but we are excited for the next two days."
Florida State's Matilda Castren (-2) is the overall leader. Three other players - two from Virginia and one from Duke - are two shots out of the lead at even.
The Wolfpack will continue ACC tourney play Friday and Saturday.
