NORMAN, Okla. - No. 20 NC State sits in a tie for 12th place after Thursday's opening round of the 2013 NCAA Central Regional at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Course.
The Wolfpack, at 6-over 294, is just four shots out of fourth place in a crowded leader board that features 11 clubs within four shots of each other.
Vivian Tsui led the charge Thursday with a 1-under 71 for the Wolfpack. She is tied for 13th after three front-nine birdies had her out in 33 this morning.
Augusta James is tied for 26th after an even-par 72. She struggled early with a bogey on three of her first four holes, however, a birdie at the par-5 fifth got her going in the right direction.
The All-ACC selection finished strong with birdies at both 17 and 18 to end her day on a high note. James was 3-under on the par-5s today, tied for the best score in the field.
All-ACC teammate Brittany Marchand opened regional play with a 3-over 75 and is tied for 64th. She ranked among the best in the field with 14 pars and a 4.00 scoring average on par-4 holes.
Ana Menendez is tied for 77th at 4-over 76, while Rachael Taylor shot an 83 and is tied for 121st.
Florida owns a one-shot lead at 6-under 282, followed by host Oklahoma in second at 283. Duke is third at 284.
Oklahoma's Emily Collins tops the individuals at 5-under 67. Elcin Ulu of Florida shot a 68, followed by a group of six competitors at 69.
NC State's second round tee times begin at 11:50 a.m., from hole No. 10 alongside Texas Tech and Michigan State. Teams will be regrouped after 36 holes according to score for Saturday's final round.
