Marchand Maintains Top-10 Showing at NCAA Championship

With one round to go at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, NC State maintains its hold on 13th place. Sophomore Brittany Marchand continues to lead the way for the Pack, as she sits in eighth place with 18 holes to go. The final round will be played Friday at the par 72, 6,377-yard Vanderbilt Legends Course in Franklin, Tenn.
In Thursday’s third round, the Pack shot a 17-over 305, and sits in 13th place at the end of the second straight round at 34-over 898.
Marchand continues her push to bring home a top-10 finish. In Thursday’s action, she recorded her first round over par of the tournament, shooting a 4-over 76. Coming in with just four bogeys in the first two rounds, Marchand, who started the day in third place, had six bogeys in the round offset by two birdies.
Chirapat Jao-Javanil of Oklahoma and Giulia Molinaro of Arizona State are tied atop the leaderboard at 4-under 212 after three rounds.
Augusta James and Amanda Baker continue to match each other’s scores, as the duo once shot the same score for the third straight round. Both golfers were also 4-over 76 to match Marchand, and both are at 10-over 226 for the tournament.
James went even-par on the front-nine, but a triple bogey on No. 10 pushed her score back. She recovered to hole two birdies. Baker recorded a birdie on No, 1 and 10 today, and shot 2-over on both the front and back-nine.
Ana Menedez was close behind today at 5-over 77, and is at 15-over 229 through three rounds. Vivian Tsui shot 10-over 82, and sits at 21-over 237 for the tournament.
Nearly every team carded its worse round of the tournament in Thursday’s third round. Including No. 2 Alabama, the only team under par through two rounds, at five-under, but the Crimson Tide shot 19-over on Thursday. Alabama continues to hold onto the team lead, holding a two-stroke edge at 13-over 877.
