Women's Golf Ninth After Cougar Classic First Round
HANAHAN, S.C. – The 25th-ranked NC State women’s golf team is in ninth place after firing a 2-over par, 290 total in the first round of the Cougar Classic on Sunday.
The event is being hosted by the College of Charleston at the par-72, 6,219-yard Yeamans Hall Club.
Sophomore Augusta James was the top Wolfpack individual, carding a 2-under par 70, including four birdies on the day to tie for seventh-place overall. Fellow sophomore Lindsay McGetrick and junior Brittany Marchand each finished at 1-over, 73 with McGertick posting three birdies in her round, while Marchand had two. The duo is tied for 33rd.
“We had a good opening round,” said NC State head coach Page Marsh. “I thought they looked engaged, but relaxed.”
“You could see they were enjoying the competition.”
Southern Cal is at the top of the team leader board at 3-under, followed by Duke, Florida and Virginia in a three-way tie for second at 2-under. Georgia is fifth at 1-under with Auburn at sixth place at even par. Defending national champion Alabama is tied with Vanderbilt for seventh at 1-over. Rounding out the top-10 is Wisconsin at 3-over.
The tournament continues Monday with the second round.
