SIMPSONVILLE, KY. - Wolfpack golfers Amanda Baker, Augusta James, and Brittany Marchand finished among the top-five individuals to push NC State to a four-stroke lead over a 14 team field after the first round of the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup.
Baker’s even-par 72 landed her in a three-way tie for first on the individual leaderboard. The junior will look to better her career-high finish, 11th, set last year at the LSU Invitational.
James finished one stroke behind Baker and the leaders, good for fourth place alone. Marchand fired a 2-over 74 to claim a share of fifth place overall.
Ana Menendez rounded out the Pack’s team scorecard with her 5-over 77 to climb into a tie for 23rd. Vivian Tsui’s first round 79 settled the freshman into a tie for 39th.
NC State carded an 8-over 296 at the par-72, 6,253 yard Cardinal Club Golf Course. The Pack holds a four-shot lead over 50th-ranked East Carolina and a nine-shot advantage over Missouri and Penn State, the pair of teams tied for third.
Maureen Dunnagan, competing as an individual, notched a 5-over par 77 to finish tied with Menendez in 23rd. The sophomore could set a new career-high with a finish of 14th or better.
On Tuesday, the Wolfpack will try for the ninth team title in school history, the first since 2010’s UNCG Starmount Fall Classic.
Due to inclement weather, day one of the Cardinal Cup was shortened to 18 holes. The two-day event will consist of 36 holes, with the final round taking place Tuesday morning. Live stats are available at Golfstat.com.
