Strong Finish Lifts NC State To Third At Mason Rudolph

FRANKLIN, Tenn. - Enduring windy and rainy conditions, the NC State women's golf team finished with a flurry to pull into third place at the Mason Rudolph Invitational on Saturday.
As a team, the Wolfpack scored three under par on the 18th hole to put a strong finish on a day that saw tough course conditions and a morning rain delay.
James continues to lead the Pack. Following her first-round 69 on Friday, the junior fired an even 72 to remain (-3). She is tied with UCLA's Erynne Lee and is two shots behind tourney leader Elizabeth Blackwell of Virginia.
Marchand and Menendez are also among the tourney's top players, with each currently in a group tied for 12th place. Marchand on Saturday shot 71 to move up in the standings after a 74 on Friday. Rounding out the Wolfpack contingent are Vivian Tsui (+8, tied for 41st) and Caroline Ellington (+13, tied for 78th). The 15-team event, which included 11 nationally-ranked teams, started with 88 players in the field.
North Carolina State is the leading ACC school in the tournament. UCLA and Arizona State are the two squads ahead of NCSU. Host school Vanderbilt and Duke (+9) are tied for fourth. North Carolina (6th), Virginia (8th) and Wake Forest (11th) all trail the Wolfpack.
The third and final round of the Mason Rudolph Invitational will be Sunday, Sept. 22. The Wolfpack players are scheduled to tee off beginning at 10:00 a.m. ET.
