James Bounces Back To Lead NC State
Oct. 26, 2013
WILMINGTON, N.C. - A day after being unable to play due to illness, Augusta James rallied to fire a 67 on the second day to lead NC State women's golf at the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNC Wilmington.
During first-round play on Friday, James played three holes before leaving the course and becoming ill. She said she would be fine to play on Saturday, and she was more than merely fine. James' round of 67 was the best mark in the tournament and led the Wolfpack by 11 shots. Only two other players broke 70 (Ashlan Ramsey of Clemson and Yu Liu of Duke) on the day.
Behind James' standout performance, NC State showed an 18-shot improvement from Friday's round to Saturday. NC State carded a 305 to move up in the team standings. NCSU is now tied with host school UNCW for 15th place.
Alabama (575) leads the team standings, followed by Duke (583) and Clemson (598). Alabama's Stephanie Meadow (141) leads all players.
NC State will play one final round at the Country Club of Landfall in Wilmington, the team's final round of this season's fall schedule. The Wolfpack players tee off Sunday morning beginning at 8:45 a.m.
