Jan. 6, 2013
Miami - Junior Albin Choi sank a 12-foot par putt on the 18th hole to clinch the 2013 Copa de las Americas crown for Team Canada Sunday afternoon at the par-72 TPC Blue Monster Course at Doral Golf Resort & Spa. Choi, along with fellow NC State golfer, sophomore Augusta James and Copa teammates Corey Conners and Brooke Mackenzie combined to post a four-day total of 25-over par 1177, good for a one-stroke victory over Mexico and two strokes ahead of the United States squad. Choi carded a final round 2-over par 74 to finish the competition at even par 288. Choi and Conners also finished second in the men's championship with a 579 four-round total. Mexico won with a 575 tally. James posted a 5-over par 77 in Sunday's final round and Mackenzie shot a 2-under par 70 to secure second place in the women's competition. The duo's four-day 598 total was one behind the winning United States duo of Erynne Lee and Lindy Duncan. James recorded a 17-over par, 305. This is the third Copa team trophy for Canada, also claiming the title in 2003 and 2005.
