Women's Golf In Ninth After First Day of Lady Puerto Rico Classic

RIO GRANDE, P.R. – The NC State women’s golf team is in ninth place after the first day of the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,191-yard River Course at the Rio Mar Country Club.
Senior Amanda Baker and sophomore Augusta James are tied for 22nd place at 3-over par 75. Junior Ana Menendez and sophomore Vivian Tsui are both five shots off the pace with a first-round 77s to tie for 47th. Junior Brittany Marchand is a stroke back, carding a 78 on the opening day of competition. Playing as an individual, junior Lindsay McGetrick is also tied with teammates Baker and James for 22nd on the leaderboard.
Baker’s round began with bogey on her opening hole, the eighth. She would get back to even par with a birdie on the par 3 10th and hold steady over the next six holes before carding her second bogey of the afternoon. Baker would post a bogey, birdie and double bogey over her final six holes. James’ day also got off to a birdie start at the par-4 fifth. She would stay at 1-under until a bogey at the par-4 12th. A birdie at par-5 15th put James back at one under, but bogeys at the 17th, first, third and double bogey at the second. She finished with a birdie on her closing hole, the par-5 fourth.
Arkansas’ Emily Tubert is overall leader, in the clubhouse with a 2-under par 70. Tubert’s Razorbacks holds the team lead as well with a 3-over par 291 total.
Behind Arkansas on the leaderboard are Alabama and TCU, tied for second at 5-over par 293. Texas Tech is fourth at 8-over par, 296, followed by Iowa State at 11-over par 299 to round out the top five.
The second day of play gets underway at 8 a.m. at the Rio Mar’s River Course.
