San Jose, Calif. - The NC State women's golf team sits in fourth place at the Juli Inkster Spartan Invitational with a 20-over par 596, after playing 36 holes on the first day. The tournament is being held at the par-72, 6,180-yard Almaden Golf & Country Club.

The Wolfpack opened the tournament Monday with a 299 in the first round before firing a 297 in the second round. NC State is 18 shots off the pace of first-place Stanford, which sits atop the team standings at 2-over 578 after 36 holes.

Junior Brittany Marchand is tied for eighth with a 3-over 147. In the first round, Marchand carded a 2-over 74 followed by a 1-over 73. Over her two rounds, Marchand posted nine birdies.

Sophomore Augusta James opened her day with an even par 72 before shooting a 4-over 76 for a two-round total of 4-over, 148 and is tied for 11th.  Junior Ana Menendez is a shot back of James and tied for 18 with 5-over 149. Menendez had rounds of 4-over 76 and 1-over 73.

Sophomore Vivian Tsui sits at 9-over 153 and is tied for 34^th. Tsui posted rounds of 5-over 77 and 4-over 76. Sophomore Lindsay McGetrick began her day with a 10-over, 82 in the first round, but came back with a 3-over 75 for a 13-over 157 to tie for 51^st.

Defending champion California is second at 11-over 587. The Golden Bears are followed by Washington, which posted a 14-over 590. Rounding out the top five is UC Irvine in fifth at 22-over 598.

Tuesday's final round begins with an 8:15 a.m. (PST) shotgun start.
