    Pack Women's Golf In Fifth After First Round of LSU Golf Classic

    BATON ROUGE – After the first round of the LSU Golf Classic, the NC State women’s team is in fifth place after firing a 14-over 302 Friday. The Wolfpack is nine shots off the pace of first-place Arkansas, which finished the opening day with a five-over 293. The tournament is being held at the par 72, 6,305-yard University Club.

    Senior Amanda Baker was the Pack’s top golfer after the first day with a two-over 74 to tie for 13th.  Baker’s first round featured three birdies.  A stroke back of Baker in the standings is junior Ana Menendez and sophomore Vivian Tsui with both carding three-over 75s, tying for 16th place. Menendez recorded an eagle at the 478-yard, par-5 sixth hole. Tsui had three birdies during her opening round Friday.

    Sophomore Augusta James and junior Brittany Marchand are tied for 34th on the leader board following opening six-over 78s. James had three birdies, while Marchand carded four.

    Freshman Rachael Taylor, competing as an individual in her first-ever collegiate event, is also tied for 16th with a three-over 75.

    Arkansas’ Gabriela Lopez, Tennessee’s Erica Popson and Tulane’s Maribel Lopez Porras are tied for the individual lead at one-under 71.

    In the team standings, Tulane is second at 10-over 295, with Florida State and TCU tied at 13-under 301.

    Saturday’s second round gets underway with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
