Wolfpack Aiming For ACC Crown This Week At League Tournament
April 16, 2014
GREENSBORO, N.C. - After posting its best ACC tourney finish in school history last season, the No. 22 NC State women's golf team is taking aim at a conference championship this week at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro.
Last season, the Wolfpack finished second at the ACC Women's Golf Championship en route to earning an at-large bid into the NCAA Central Regional. This week, head coach Page Marsh's team will return to Sedgefield on a mission to climb to the top spot.
"Everyone has been working very hard," Marsh said. "They are very excited to play in our conference championship. It's a great site with great competition. Our team is looking forward to this opportunity."
In last year's tournament, NC State placed all five of its players in the top 25 of the field. NCSU was led by Brittany Marchand, who tied for sixth overall at +10. Augusta James (+15) tied for 12th and Ana Menendez (+16) finished 16th. Vivan Tsui tied for 25th. Those four players are all returning for another crack at the ACC title. Lindsay McGetrick, who has played in the last three tournaments, is also in the lineup.
Duke, ranked No. 3 in the nation, is the ACC's defending champion. Clemson and Wake Forest join Duke and NC State as the tournament's four nationally-ranked squads in the most recent GolfWorld poll. Eight ACC teams are in the top 30 of the Golfstat.com rankings.
