W. Golf Tied for 4th after Day One at ACC Championship
DAYTONA BEACH, FLA. NC State finds itself tied for fourth after Friday’s first round of the 2008 ACC Women’s Golf Championship from the LPGA International Legends Course.
The Wolfpack shot a team total of +11 (299).
Sophomore Emily Street played a very steady first of three rounds this weekend with an even-par 72 and is tied for 6th overall. Her day featured one birdie, one bogey and 16 pars.
Junior Lauren Doughtie is two shots back of Street after a two-over 74, which puts her in a tie for 11th. An up-and-down front nine saw Doughtie fashion two birdies and three bogeys and was out in 37 (+1). She settled down by posting par on nine of the final 10 holes with her only blemish the rest of the way was a bogey at the par-5 14th.
NC State senior Stephanie Derrey contributed with a four-over 76 to tie for 22nd. A birdie at the par-3 12th highlighted her round on Friday, which also had five bogeys and 12 pars.
Julie Saleeby fired a five-over 77 and is tied for 28th overall. She birdied the home hole, the par-4 18th, that helped ease a double bogey two holes prior.
Sister Joanna Saleeby finished up at six-over 78 to tie for 32nd with six bogeys and 12 pars on her trek today.
Virginia leads the field by 10 strokes over No. 1 Duke. The Cavaliers had three of the five golfers shoot scores under par today, including first-round leader Joy Kim (-3), to compile an impressive 4 (284) team score. Duke (294) and Florida State (296) are followed by the Pack and Wake Forest at 299.
Second round action begins at 8 am on Saturday.
