Wolfpack Ready For NCAA East Regional
May 7, 2014
The goal for the NC State women's golf team this weekend at the NCAA East Regional is simple. The Wolfpack needs to be one shot better than last season.
NC State, which spent the entire 2013-14 year in the national rankings, is ready for this weekend's tournament at Southwood Golf Club in Tallahassee, Fla. One year ago, the Pack placed ninth in regional play, missing a berth to the NCAA Championship by one shot.
The Wolfpack, led by All-ACC players Augusta James and Brittany Marchand, can make up that one stroke and more. NC State placed third at the ACC Women's Golf Championship and nearly surged to second place on the final round. Ana Menendez, who placed ninth at the conference tournament, will also be a factor along with Lindsay McGetrick and Rachael Taylor.
NC State is one of 29 teams - and four ACC squads - in the regional, which is hosted by Florida State. The regional features 14 teams (including NC State) that are currently receiving votes in the WGCA/GolfWorld poll. The Tallahassee field also includes eight of the poll's current top 25 teams.
Should NC State finish eighth or better at the NCAA East Regional, the Pack will advance to the NCAA Women's Golf Championship May 20-23 in Tulsa, Okla.
