FRANKLIN, Tenn. - NC State’s women’s golf season culminates this week at the 2012 NCAA Women’s Golf Championship, held at the Vanderbilt Legends Club Tuesday, May 22 through Friday, May 25.
The Wolfpack earned its first-ever trip to the NCAA Championship by finishing seventh of 24 teams at the NCAA Central Regional on May 12. The Pack joins Colorado as one of two teams in the 24-team field making its first appearance at the national championship tournament.
The NCAA Championship marks the final tournament of what has been NC State’s most successful campaign in program history. ACC Freshman of the Year Augusta James will lead the Pack in Franklin after finishing tied for 10th at the regional. James will be joined by fellow All-ACC performer Brittany Marchand. Marchand scored a top-20 finish in Columbus after setting NC State’s single-season record for most victories in 2011-12.
Junior Amanda Baker, sophomore Ana Menendez, and freshman Vivian Tsui will round out the Wolfpack’s lineup this week. Menendez set the school’s single-round scoring record earlier in the season with a 67 at the Pinehurst Spring Challenge.
The NCAA champion will be crowned over 72 holes, with morning and afternoon waves teeing off of both sides. The top four scores from each five-player team will count toward the team total each day. NC State tees off with Duke and North Carolina Tuesday between 7:33 a.m. and 8:17 a.m. The three ACC squads will play together again on Wednesday, starting between 11:50 a.m. and 12:34 p.m., before teams are reseeded for the final two rounds Thursday and Friday.
Tickets for the NCAA Women’s Golf Championship are $25 for adults and $15 for youth and students 17 and under. Single day passes are $8 for adults and $5 for youth and students.
