Hammond Qualifies for Amateur Pub Links Championship
NC State women’s golfer Hayley Hammond qualified for the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship.
Hammond, of Mooresville, N.C, shot a two-over-par 74 during sectional qualifying at Ironwood Golf & Country Club in Greenville, N.C.
She becomes the first NC State player to qualify for the WAPL since Lauren Doughtie and former teammate Emily Street in 2008.
Hammond recently completed her first season with the Wolfpack. She finished tied for 15th at UNCW Lady Seahawk to highlight her freshman campaign.
The national championship will take place June 21-26 at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.
The U.S. Women’s Amateur Public Links is one of 13 national championships conducted annually by the United States Golf Association, 10 of which are strictly for amateurs.
The tournament is open to amateur golfers who since Jan. 1 of a current year have been bona fide public course players. Players may not have held privileges of any course that does not extend playing privileges to the general public or privileges of any private club maintaining its own course.
