Women's Golf Summer Update
July 18, 2014
After placing 10th at the NCAA Championship in May, the NC State women's golf team has thrived in various tournaments this summer.
Three players - three-time All-ACC players Augusta James and Brittany Marchand and rising senior Vivian Tsui - recently qualified for the US Women's Amateur Championship. James earned a spot after winning the sectional qualifier in Michigan. She shot a 71 to lead all players. Tsui played her way into the field by shooting a 72 at Sapona Ridge Country Club in Lexington, N.C. Marchand shot a 71 in a qualifying round to earn a berth into the tournament as well.
Their play in July earned them spots in the 100th US Amateur Championship, held Aug. 4-10 at the Nassau Country Club in Glen Cove, N.Y.
Ana Menendez, who just finished her senior season for NC State, advanced to match play at the Women's North And South at Pinehurst Country Club. She led four recent and current Wolfpack players at the tournament, shooting a 146 in her first two rounds. Newcomer Cecily Overbey shot 148, joined by Lindsay McGetrick at 151 and Brittany Marchand with a score of 152. See more about that tournament HERE.
