RALEIGH, N.C. - Rachel Fincham's third-career 9.9, coupled with career-bests from Hannah Fallanca and Stephanie Ouellette, elevated NC State gymnastics to a 194.050 and a win over BYU Saturday in Reynolds Coliseum.
Oullette's career-high 39.100 and Fincham's 9.9 bar routine stood out as the highlights of the night, as the junior managed her first 9.9 of 2012 to finish first. Fallanca established a new career-high with her 9.775 vault. Ouellette's 9.75 on beam also beats out her previous best of 9.725.
"I thought we had a good showing tonight," said NC State head coach Mark Stevenson. "We had some mistakes tonight, but we were able to bounce back from those mistakes, and that's what I like to see going forward. Rachel did an incredible job on her bar routine, as well, and I was really pleased to see her all the way back from injury."
NC State dominated the podium as Ouellette took the all-around title, first place on floor, second on bars, and third on beam. Ham managed a first on vault, second on floor, and third on beam.
Diahanna Ham and Brooke Barr helped the Pack make a statement early with a pair of 9.825 vaults to take first place. Fallanca established a new career-high with her 9.775. Ouellette added a 9.75 to round out NC State's 48.825 on the opening rotation.
Bolstered by Fincham's outstanding routine, the Wolfpack recorded a 48.225 on bars. Ouellette's 9.775 represented the Pack's next-best effort, good for second place behind Fincham.
Freshman Lane Jarred turned in a strong performance on beam with a 9.775 for second. Panza edged Jarred's score with a 9.825 to nab first place, and Ouellette notched a career-best 9.75, but the Wolfpack came away with a 48.250 on the rotation.
Ouellette wrapped up her impressive evening, good for a 39.100 all-around score, with a 9.825 to lead the way in the floor exercise and claim first place. State enjoyed 9.775s from Ham and Barr as well to total a 48.750.
NC State returns to action next weekend at Illinois-Chicago. Pack gymnastics returns home on February 11 for the Sweetheart Invitational beginning at 7 p.m.
