No. 23 Gymnastics Wins Quad Meet

Raleigh, N.C. - The No. 23 NC State gymnastics team celebrated its Senior Day with a team score of 195.525 to win is final home meet of the 2002 season. The Wolfpack (17-5) took first, while Western Michigan was second 9194.250), Yale took third (193.775), and Ball State was fourth (192.450).
NC State started the meet on vault, and swept the top three spots. Senior Aimee Panton won vault with a score of 9.85. Fellow senior Kelli Brown was close behind in second, registering a 9.825. For the third week in a row, freshman Jessica Campbell set a personal-best on vault, this week scoring a 9.8 for third place. Fellow freshman Andrea Petrocelli was fifth (9.725), and junior Stephanie Southard and sophomore Molly Pennington each scored a 9.7 to tie for eighth.
Panton won her second event of the night, by scoring a 9.85 on bars. Brown was once again the Pack's next highest scorer with a 9.825 to tie for third along with Southard who tied a season-high. junior Marlyn Madey scored a 9.8 to place fifth. Senior Laura Jazab and junior Adina Stock tied for ninth each with a 9.75.
The Pack then claimed its third event title of the evening, when Jazab scored a 9.9 on beam for the second straight week and won beam for the second time this season. Petrocelli placed second with a score of 9.85. Madey took sixth with a 9.775.
NC State was unable to make a clean sweep of every event, when Western Michigan had three gymnasts tie for first on floor. Madey was the top Pack finisher scoring a 9.85 and placing fifth. Freshman Cori Goldstein notched a 9.825 to place seventh, while Brown and junior Cara Dougherty tied for 12th each with a 9.8.
NC State will get one more tune-up before the EAGL Championships March 23, when the Pack travels to Denver for a meet next weekend.
