    Wolfpack Finishes Second at EAGL Championship

    PITTSBURGH, Pa.-- No. 20 North Carolina State finished second at the 2012 East Atlantic Gymnastics League Championship on Saturday, registering a total team score of 196.000.  

    The Wolfpack received a tough draw, starting the meet on the balance beam, which was the lowest scoring event for every team at the meet. That, combined with a few jitters, put the Pack in a tough situation. State scored a 48.600 on beam, 49.300 on floor, 49.000 on vault, and a 49.100 on bars.

    NC State started the meet off on beam, posting a total team score of 48.6. Senior Jess Panza along with freshman Lane Jarred led the Wolfpack on beam scoring 9.8s. Sophomore Hannah Fallanca scored a 9.7, while senior Brooke Barr and sophomore Stephanie Ouellette scored 9.65s.  

    The Wolfpack turned it into overdrive on floor, turning in a team score of 49.300, to tie its highest score of the season on floor, which come at the Sweetheart Invitational. All gymnasts that competed on floor scored a 9.850 or higher, the first time this season that the Wolfpack has accomplished the feat. 

    Seniors Brooke Barr and Jess Panza paced the Pack on floor, scoring 9.875s. Sophomores Diahanna Ham and Stephanie Ouellette, paired with freshman Lane Jarred, recorded 9.85s. 

    At the halfway point, NC State had a total team score of 97.900, good for third behind the University of North Carolina and West Virginia University. 

    State posted a team score of 49.000 on vault, which was the second event that the Wolfpack scored a team score of 49 or better. Senior Brooke Barr highlighted the Pack's performance on vault, recording a 9.850. 

    Sophomores Hannah Fallanca and Stephanie Ouellette finished right behind Barr with 9.8s. Senior Alex Williams, along with sophomore Diahanna Ham, posted a 9.775 to round out the scoring for the Wolfpack on vault. 

    The Pack finished out the day with a strong showing on the uneven parallel bars, posting a team score of 49.100. Senior Jess Panza and junior Rachel Fincham headlined NC State's performance on bars, scoring 9.875s. 

    Stephanie Ouellette scored a 9.825, while Alex Williams was recorded a 9.8. Senior Jackie Yanchocik and sophomore Kristen Harabedian scored 9.725s to round out the Pack's scoring on bars. 

    NC State has been selected to host a regional of the NCAA Tournament that will take place on Saturday, April 7 at 4 p.m. in Reynolds Coliseum. The other teams that will be competing in the regional along with NC State will be announced on Monday, March 26 at 3 p.m.
