No. 22 Gymnastics Opens the Season at No. 8 LSU
Jan. 3, 2013
RALEIGH, N.C. - The preseason 22nd-ranked NC State gymnastics team will open the 2013 season on Friday, Jan. 4, by traveling to eighth-ranked Louisiana State University Tigers. The meet is slated to get underway at 8 p.m. EST in the Maravich Center.
"LSU is one of the top school's in the country and we're excited about the competition," head coach Mark Stevenson said. "This meet is a good starting point to the season for us. It gives us a chance to see where we're going and where we need to be."
The Wolfpack will open the meet on the uneven parallel bars, before moving to vault. In the second half of the meet, the Pack will be on the balance beam and will conclude the night on floor exercise.
State returns several top-performers from last year's squad, including the NCAA Regional Champion on the uneven parallel bars, Rachel Fincham. Fincham is joined by all-arounder Stephanie Ouellette, who finished first on the team with 18 podium finishes, and Diahanna Ham, who tied the school record on vault with a 9.95 last season.
"Our goal is to have no falls that count for us in the competition," Stevenson said. "If we do that then we have taken care of what we need to do."
In last year's meeting, the Wolfpack posted a score of 194.875, while the Tigers recorded a 196.550.
