Gymnastics Scores a Season-High in Loss to No. 1 Georgia
RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State scored it's season-high - a 193.100 - in a dual-meet with No. 1 Georgia, the four-time defending NCAA Champion. The Gym Dogs scored a 195.000 overall. NC State defeated Georgia head-to-head on the floor, an event where the Gym Dogs ranked No. 6 nationally coming into the meet. Junior Taylor Seaman won the floor and was second in the all-around to lead NC State in the meet.
NC State got off to a strong start at the meet with a season-high 48.875 on vault. Freshman Brooke Barr continued her strong rookie season, posting a 9.850 to lead the Pack and place third overall in the meet. Sophomore Brittney Hardiman also hit a season-high, finishing second on the team with a 9.825, and fourth overall.
The Pack moved to the bars for its second event of the evening, and posted a 48.000, its third bars score over 48.000 this season in four meets. Junior Taylor Seaman led the team with a 9.825 and just missed placing in the podium with her fourth place showing. Sophomore Brittany Vontz was second on the team and sixth overall with a 9.750.
On the beam, NC State's third event of the evening, the Pack scored a 47.575 and was just over two points behind overall. Seaman remained strong in the meet with a solid beam routine, scoring a 9.800 to take third in the meet.
On floor, NC State put up the best team score of the season, scoring a 48.700 and defeating No. 1 Georgia head-to-head. The Gym Dogs are ranked No. 6 nationally in the event. Seaman was again impressive for the Pack, posting a 9.875, tying her season-high, and winning the event. Senior Ashley Shepard was again impressive on floor, scoring a 9.800 to finish third in the meet.
In the all-around, Seaman just missed first place overall with a score of 39.275. She was narrowly edged out by 5-time NCAA Champion and 10-time All-American Courtney Kupets, who scored a 39.350. Hardiman had her best all-around score of the season, posting a 38.900 to take third.
NC State returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 1 in Pittsburgh in an EAGL dual-meet with the Panthers before returning home next Saturday for the annual Governor's Cup meet. That home meet is at 6 pm.
