No. 3 Florida Nips No. 22 NC State
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 22 NC State gymnastics fell to No. 3 Florida on Friday night at Reynolds Coliseum, 195.475 - 194.450. The meet was held in front of 2,495 fans and was a season-high for NC State at home, and its second-highest score overall.
Individually for NC State, Brooke Barr won the all-around and finished third on vault and floor, Jess Panza won beam and was third on floor, and Taylor Seaman won floor.
The Wolfpack started on vault against the Gators, and three gymnasts scored over a 9.7. Brooke Barr led the way with a 9.775, a team best on the event. Jess Panza scored a 9.725 and Brittney Hardiman scored a 9.7.
On bars, NC State scored a 48.500 with Taylor Seaman's 9.775 leading the team. Rachel Fincham and Hardiman each scored a 9.75 to finish second on the team.
The Pack trailed Florida by a little over one point heading into its third event, beam. After a slow start, Brittany Vontz got things started with a 9.7 and Seaman added her own 9.7. Panza topped it off with a 9.825 on beam, her season-high and a team-high so far in 2010.
Becca Teich got floor off to a solid start with a 9.775 on floor, her season-high and tied for her career-high. Hardiman added a 9.775 of her own, a season-high. Panza and Barr both posted 9.8s, before Seaman closed it with a season-high 9.9.
In the all-around, Brooke Barr scored a 38.925 to win the event, defeating the third-ranked all-arounder in the nation in the process. Rachel Fincham competed in the all-around for the first time in her career and scored a 38.575.
