No. 25 Gymnastics Posts 195.175 at No. 1 Georgia
The No. 25-ranked NC State gymnastics team scored a 195.175, its second-highest score of the season, in front of 9,407 fans at No. 1 Georgia, the three-time defending NCAA Champion. The Bulldogs (5-1, 3-0 SEC) scored a 196.875 in winning the dual meet, however, the Wolfpack (6-4, 2-1 EAGL) gymnasts turned in a quality show of their own throughout the evening.
Taylor Seaman and Heather Zolton turned in the top-two all-around performances in the EAGL conference in 2008, as Seaman notched a 39.125 and Zolton scored a 39.050. Seaman scored a 9.8 or higher on three of the four events to lead the Pack.
The Wolfpack started on bars and turned in a season-high score on the event with a 48.850. Sophomore Taylor Seaman led the Pack with a 9.825, tying her season-high from the Auburn meet last weekend. Senior Heather Zolton turned in a 9.8 to tie her season-high.
Next up for the Pack was the vault, and the red and white didn't disappoint. With a score of 48.950, their second-highest season score behind a 49.000 to open the season at No. 12 Arizona, NC State stayed competitive early in the meet. Freshman Brittney Hardiman, reigning EAGL Rookie of the Week, was fourth with a 9.850 to pace the squad. Seaman had a 9.800 to finish seventh overall.
Seaman continued her hot streak with a 9.825 on the floor, as the Pack had another strong showing on there third event of the evening. Hancock one-upped Seaman on NC State's next routine, scoring a 9.850 to place third.
Hancock started the meet with a 9.750 on vault before closing with her 9.850 on floor and a team best 9.825 on the beam. Zolton was second for NC State with a 9.750.
NC State returns home to make the short trip to Chapel Hill to take on the No. 21 Tar Heels on Sunday at 1 p.m.
