No. 24 Gymnastics Scores 195.150 to Win Sweetheart Invite
The No. 24 NC State gymnastics team scored a 195.150 to defeat a pair of ranked opponents at its annual Sweetheart Invitational and take first place overall in the quad meet. No. 18 Penn State was second (194.775), No. 25 Kent State (194.025) was third and William & Mary finished fourth (189.625) in front of a crowd of 4,216.
The Wolfpack finished first as a team in the floor (49.000) and beam (48.575) and its 195.150 was the third highest this season.
Individually, Leigha Hancock won two events, beam and vault, Taylor Seaman won the floor, and Brittney Hardiman tied for first on vault. Heather Zolton was second in the all-around with a 39.100.
NC State opened on vault, and scored a 48.850, its third highest team score on the event this year. Hancock and Hardiman tied for first on the vault with 9.875, a season-high for both gymnasts.
Kelsey Lee was the Pack's top scorer on the bars with a 9.775 for a sixth place showing. Overall as a team, NC State had a 48.725, the second-best score of the meet and the third-highest score of the season for the Pack.
The Wolfpack topped the meet as a team on beam, scoring a 48.575, the third-best score of the season. Hancock finished first with a 9.875, tying her season-best. Zolton was close behind with a career-high 9.850 for a second place showing.
Seaman posted a career-best score on the floor with a 9.925 to win the event and pace the Wolfpack with a 49.000 to close the meet with a strong showing. Hardiman finished fourth with a 9.825 and Zolton was fifth with a 9.800.
No. 24 NC State will host No. 5 Michigan on Friday, Feb. 22 at 7 pm in its next home meet.
