    Gymnastics Scores a 194.600 in Hearts Invitational
    Raleigh, N.C. – The NC State gymnastics team scored a 194.600 in the annual Hearts Invitational held at Reynolds Coliseum on Saturday night. The Wolfpack used a strong floor routine to end the meet, and finished third overall. No. 6 Nebraska won the meet with a score of 196.975, while No. 24 West Virginia placed second with a 194.700. Rounding out the meet, George Washington was fourth with a 191.175, and Williams & Mary took fourth (186.225).


    NC State started the meet strong with a team score of 48.925 on vault, with every score that counted above 9.7. Junior Leigha Hancock had one of the top vaults of the day, as her 9.875 was good for third place. Senior Rachel Katz was close behind, as she finished with a 9.85 and took fifth. Junior Kelsey Lee scored a 9.775, and classmate Heather Zolton had a 9.725. Sophomore Ashley Shepard rounded out the scoring with a 9.7. 


    The Wolfpack then moved over to bars, and finished with a team score of 48.475. Senior Amanda Jones led the way for NC State with her score of 9.775 for fifth. Lee had another of NC State’s top scores, with a 9.725, and close behind was Zolton with her 9.7. Freshman Taylor Seaman returned to action this week with a 9.65, and Katz scored a 9.625. 


    NC State sat out the third rotation with a bye. 


    The Pack had to count a fall on beam, and scored a 47.950. Zolton had the Pack’s best score, going for a 9.775 and was seventh. Hancock and senior Katie Ozburn each posted a 9.725. 


    NC State closed the meet with its top team score of the day, a 49.250, as every Pack score that counted was over 9.8. That score was a season-high and the first time this season the Pack was over 49.000 on floor. Hancock netted a season high of 9.9 to take second place. Shepard was close behind, as she had a 9.875 and was fourth. Rounding out the scoring was Lee with a 9.85, Katz with her 9.825, and Jones had a 9.8. 


    The Pack will be on the road next weekend, competing at the Masters Classic in Lincoln, Neb. NC State will face Nebraska, Stanford and LSU in one top meets nationally of the weekend.
