Raleigh, N.C. - "It's the Score That Counts"

Gymnastics is unique to most college sports in the sense that wins are not as important as the scores earned throughout the season. The Wolfpack gymnastics team came home from a road trip to New Hampshire satisfied with the results, even though they did not win the meet. Rather, the team came away with a good solid away score (195.450) that will contribute to the Regional Qualifying Score (RQS) to qualify for the NCAA Regional Championships.

The RQS is determined by averaging the top six scores throughout the season, dropping the high, and including at least three scores from away meets. Therefore, away scores are crucial for the Pack. The Pack has only had three away meets so far, with three remaining to help increase the average RQS.

Since the first two away meets in January, the team has made tremendous progress, improving its average score to be in the 195-range at home, and recently proven to have the same results away. Therefore, when the Pack travels to Utah State, William and Mary and the Conference Championships (EAGL) in March, they will be hoping to produce at least two more solid scores to replace the 192.300 and 193.825 from the first two away meets. As this occurs, the team will show a dramatic increase in the National rankings.

Should the Pack be in the top-18 nationally after EAGL, the team will be guaranteed a spot at Regionals. Otherwise, they will be fighting for an opportunity to make the Championships using their RQS.

Until then, they have two home meets to help boost their confidence and further develop their routines before hitting the road again. They aim for a solid meet at home with the goal of earning a 196.000. The Pack is looking forward to the thrill of competing in Reynolds Coliseum this weekend, and offering the fans an exciting show.

Don't miss the Pack as they wrap up the last two home meets of the season at the Wolfpack Invite on February 28 and Senior Night on March 8!!!
