Gymnastics Scores 195.900 in Final Home Meet
RALEIGH, N.C. – The No. 24 NC State gymnastics team completed its regular season home schedule with a convincing 195.900-192.925 win over EAGL conference foe Pittsburgh on Friday. Junior Leigha Hancock won three event titles, and the Pack finished with its second-highest score of the season.
NC State started the meet on vault, and scored a 49.100. Hancock won her second vault title of the season, as matched her career-high with a 9.9. Senior Rachel Katz scored a 9.85 and was second, and freshman Taylor Seaman’s score of 9.825 was good for third. Rounding out the scoring was sophomore Ashley Shepard with a 9.775, and senior Heather Zolton posted a 9.75.
The Wolfpack would post a 48.850 on bars, with all six of the NC State gymnasts finishing in the top-seven spots. Junior Kelsey Lee had her top finish of the season, as she was second with a score of 9.8. Zolton also tied for second with a 9.8. Freshman Lauren Deuser notched a 9.775 for fourth. Senior Amanda Jones was fifth with her 9.75, and Katz was sixth with a 9.725.
On beam, NC State finished with a team score of 48.650. Hancock scored a 9.875 to take the event title, the second week in a row she won beam. Seaman posted a 9.825 and was third, and Jones and Zolton each had a 9.7 to tie for fifth.
The Pack would finish the meet strong, with its top team score of the day coming on floor, 49.300. Hancock would win her third event title of the night, with a season-best 9.925. Both Seaman, Shepard and Zolton all had 9.85 routines, and tied for second. Katz’s score of 9.825 was good for fifth.
Seaman won her second all-around title of her career, scoring a 39.175. Zolton was close behind in second with her score of 39.100.
The Pack will have one more tune up before the EAGL Championships. NC State will travel to Michigan State next weekend, for a Friday night meet.
