Woodford Named EAGL Rookie of the Year

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The East Atlantic Gymnastics League announced its postseason awards at its championship banquet, Friday, Mar. 22, at UNC's Blue Zone Concourse Club at Kenan Stadium. Various awards were announced throughout the night, highlighted by the All-EAGL teams.
Freshman Michaela Woodford received the EAGL Rookie of the Year award, becoming the first NC State freshman to do so since Brittney Hardiman in 2008. Woodford joins Hardiman, Leigha Hancock (2005) and Kara Charles (1998) as the other gymnasts to claim the award for the Wolfpack.
The All-EAGL teams were also announced at the awards banquet on Friday. Senior Rachel Fincham, juniors Hannah Fallanca, Diahanna Ham and Stephanie Ouellette, along with freshman Brittni Watkins were named to the All-EAGL First Team.
Fincham received the honor for the third time on the uneven bars, after claiming the award as a freshman and junior. Ham was named to the first team on vault and in the all-around competition. Ouellette mirrored Ham's success, receiving the award on vault, floor exercise and in the all-around. Fallanca claimed the honor on beam, while Watkins received the nod on vault and floor exercise.
Those named to the All-EAGL second team include: Fincham, Ham, Ouellette and Woodford. Fincham was named to the team on beam, while Ham received the honor on balance beam and floor exercise. Ouellette claimed second-team honors on the uneven bars. Woodford earned the award on balance beam and all-around.
NC State will take part in the 2013 EAGL Championship on Saturday, Mar. 23, in Chapel Hill, N.C., at 2 p.m. in Carmichael Arena on UNC's campus.
